Central location on the right side of the tracks to walk downtown. Good Himalayan restaurant attached. Carpets on the stairs stained, but room condition was good.

Clean but dated hotel with a mediocre breakfast!

In connection with a short visit to Ghent for biz, I was looking for a hotel near Ghent Sint Pieters station. I ended up at Castel, where I had booked online. The reception was formal, not welcoming, and I still had to pay the tourist tax. With a lift to the room and on the landing red spots in the carpeting - see also other reviews. Hotel owner: do something about this, it's not a sight!
The room was located at the front of the property, somewhat on the small side, but clean. Furthermore, a kettle and some instant coffee, tea and spring water. The bathroom was fine - plenty of towels - but the shower head leaked incessantly. For my night's sleep, I just put it on the floor. No noise from the station or the terraces nearby. The breakfast booked for € 15 turned out to be in the adjacent restaurant - apparently from the same owner - but was too meagre for that price: a cup of tea or coffee with croissant and/or limp bread a slice of cheese, peasant sausage or scrambled eggs. All in all, fine for one night, but not for a long time and forgo breakfast, because for that you better divert to one of the adjacent terraces.

Excellent for proximity to train station. <30 min walk to center or uni. Very friendly and helpful guys at front desk. Has Indian-Nepali restaurant/bar attached, but I didn't tty it. Clean and comfortable room. Only negative was dilapidated light well 'view.' Preferred to close curtains and pretend there was no window.

I have no idea what the average hotel in Ghent is...

... but I know for sure that this hotel is average, nothing more.
Time has evidently passed and especially in the common areas could use a refreshed beeellaaaaa!
Then, the room had a nice big bed, more than decent sheets and working bathroom. For one night you can go.
I didn't pay so I can't say about the value for money.
Nor about breakfast.

Well located but very basic hotel.

The hotel is located directly opposite Gent-Sint-Pieters Train Station. It is a small family-run, old hotel that would need upgrading. At the reception all right. The room had no view overlooking a patio, and was spacious with antique but comfortable beds and mattresses. The bathroom was fine, clean and with toiletries. Very old towels, some broken and stained. I had tea and coffee kit in the room. Breakfast was served in the restaurant on the ground floor. Very very basic, there was no vegan option.
