The luxurious Hotel Ambassador is located on the Kärntner Straße shopping street in the centre of Vienna, just 200 metres from the Stephansplatz and Karlsplatz Underground Stations. It offers a restaurant and free WiFi.

The pictures look great online, but don't believe all you see online
The hotel is very well located and we booked because we were attracted by the online pictures of what looks like a very nice, classic and traditional 5 star hotel in the center of Vienna.
Unfortunately, we were disappointed, not only the pictures look way better than the hotel it is in fact, and the rooms shown online are just "illustrative", as I was told by the receptionist, after seeing that the allocated room was not how it looks online when I booked.
Our room was spacious, but the hotel decided to display the bed so close to the bathroom door that you hardly have space to stand out of bed and immediately hit the bathroom door.
The person enters the room, come across the bed and the small bathroom, but there is another area, a small lounge, with two chairs and a table, which would be way better organised the other way around: entering the room, first the sitting area, than a more private, bedroom area. Despite having more room to open the bathroom door. After all, this is branded (and very well paid for) a 5 star hotel.
Special attention to the bathroom, which is way too small, hardly fits one person in it and the door can't completely open as it hits the toilet bowl. Not taken into consideration the danger to older people, as the shower is on top of a bathtub, meaning people need to go into the bath in order to take a shower. Hotels need to take older people’s needs into consideration. Specially a 5 star hotel.
The bed sheets were not very clean, there were many hairs on it. I requested it to be changed. The cleaning lady was very attentive and sympathetic, but had no hygiene notion, she changed the pillow cover and put it on top of my trolley that just come from the very dirty airport floor. Also, she didn’t understand why I requested another pillow cover. She said it was clean as she just changed...
There are two entrances at this hotel, a main entrance and a secondary entrance at the shopping street, which the door opened with a cord - yes, you read it right, a cord. The picture is part of this review.
The lamp on the ceiling was not looking very safe. Picture also part of the review. Details not shown into the hotel pictures, of course, but that breaks every feeling that you are indeed paying for a 5 star hotel. I would not be making this review if I would be paying a 3 star, a hostel or a camping. Here, what you pay is not what you get.
Additionally, I disclosed to the reception that this was a special occasion to celebrate a birthday, but not even a card was sent to our room, as courtesy. Normally is expected that a 5 star hotel would do so. Besides the fact that we didn’t like the room and would stay 3 nights, I requested to change to another room - not possible. The receptionist was not very pleased to work there or needs some soft skills training. She doesn't mind to show her impatience and can't be bothered. Though, the rest of the staff were very pleasant.
Overall, the price is high, but for this price you can get way better in Vienna, don’t let yourself be impressed by the online pictures, the pictures are very selective to only show the “good part” of it, but you can make a more intelligent financial decision.

Skip This Hotel
This is a very nice hotel right in the middle of Vienna’s busy commercial areas and destination spots.
PROS:
1) Strategic and convenient location
2) Well-maintained and clean rooms
3) Bright lighting in both the bedroom and the bathroom
4) Elegant chrome finishes on the bathroom
5) Adequate and well-functioning air conditioning
6) Bright and well-lit hallways
7) Elegant hotel entrance and lobby
8) Professional and respectful luggage bellhop service
9) In-room safe
CONS:
1) Uneven floor entrance to the room which can be a trip hazard
2) Receptionist seems unhappy and no warm welcomes. Not sure if this is the way visitors are greeted once they check in after a long tiring trip. A simple smile and greetings go a long way.
3) Breakfast can look expensive at 30Euro a person but its the normal meal price in Vienna.
4) Its check out day after three nights of staying here and same thing, the staff are stone-faced and unfriendly. Just asking for a simple question about the distance of the hotel to the train station seems like a Finals exam for them to answer with a frown in the face.
5) No USB ports to charge your electronic devices so be prepared to bring an adapter.
6) Very old door locks using archaic keys that you have to turn clockwise/counterclockwise.
In summary, this is a place where you expect to have a good night’s sleep in close proximity to the major attractions of Vienna but don’t expect warm welcome or warm conversation from any of the hotel staff. You pay for the room, you walk past by them and you sleep, thats it.

Room without an elevator and terrible air conditioning
We have booked the hotel several times and were quite satisfied until now; unfortunately, things did not go so well at the hotel this time. We had booked a Vienna Classic room again. At the time of booking, there was no indication that our room, which was located on the 2nd floor, was only accessible by foot from the 1st floor without an elevator; that simply should not happen in this hotel category. For us older people, that was an ordeal.
Furthermore, the air conditioning in the room constantly switched between a pleasant volume and noise every 15 minutes; getting a regular night's sleep was out of the question under these circumstances.
The hotel reception apologized, but there were no alternative rooms available on the day of arrival, which was a Saturday.
So, it is better not to stay at an overbooked hotel on the weekend!
Otherwise, everything in the hotel went as orderly as usual, the room cleaning worked perfectly, and the breakfast was very good as always.
Furthermore, the air conditioning in the room constantly switched between a pleasant volume and noise every 15 minutes; getting a regular night's sleep was out of the question under these circumstances.
The hotel reception apologized, but there were no alternative rooms available on the day of arrival, which was a Saturday.
So, it is better not to stay at an overbooked hotel on the weekend!

I can only give stars for the hotel’s location; everything else deserves zero stars.
The staff was not helpful, and the internet service was terrible. For a five-star hotel, the Wi-Fi reminded me of a dial-up connection from 30 years ago.
We booked a room for three people, but the third bed provided was essentially a small fold-out cot that was extremely uncomfortable. The hotel was unable to offer a proper bed or move us to a larger room. As a result, we had to book an additional room for our son. In reality, we ended up paying for a room advertised for three guests and then an extra room for two more guests.
The hotel staff made little effort to resolve the situation, which was very disappointing.
Vienna is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and we will definitely return in the future but we will not be staying at this hotel again.
