Went with my granddaughter - lovely hotel

Great location - friendly staff- clean - generous breakfast
would highly recommend -
Great location - Ski Bus stops outside- shops , bars, ski - hire all nearby
Hotel food good- bar staff attentive

Lunchtime Visit

We tried The Alte Post while on holiday in Ellmau in August 2023. Unfortunately, we had bad weather for one week. We were spending our holiday indoors and trying different bars and restaurant.
The Alte Post was very nice and initially welcoming, we had snacks which were very nice. Sadly there was a problem with the bill, being charged an adults price for a childs. It was upsetting, and we left feeling unwelcome. Otherwise I would recommend this restaurant/hotel

Really good value and great location

I feel that I have to write this review as I have been reading very negative accounts of this hotel on Trip Adviser. We stayed there in February and had a great time. The hotel is fine, the food was great and the staff were very helpful. I don't understand why people do not like this hotel. Also, the location is brilliant! You are right next to the bus stop to the gondola, and the buses are very frequent. You are right in the small town, and can easily walk just a few yards to the bars, supermarket, etc. We had a great time. It's not hte most fancy hotel in the world but you aren't paying top prices. We haven't found anything better for the price, and have had a lot worse.

Pleasant stay in a family hotel

We stayed for a week at the end of the winter season. The staff were welcoming and always helpful. The room had the look of needing a refresh but was large, spacious with a small balcony looking up to the mountains.
The food was a little basic and often over salted. We managed to ask for and get low salted foods.
This hotel may not be to everyone's taste and if you are looking for opulence etc, it's not for you. It is however, perfectly located with ski buses stopping outside and a short walk to local amenities.
If we stay in Ellmau, we would certainly consider staying here again.

Authentic Austrian Style.

We stayed here for a week of skiing in February and were generally very pleased with this hotel. We liked the authentic Austrian style, the cosy homely atmosphere and the friendly and helpful staff. The ski bus stop was outside the door for the link to the Hartkaiserbahnn gondola or it was a ten minute walk to the nearest lift where the easy beginner slopes are and from where it was possible to link in to the main skiwelt. Breakfast was typical of the continental style with meats and cheeses and eggs, yoghurts and fruit, rolls and coffee but no fry-up. At breakfast you selected your evening meal from a choice of three from the menu. We thought that the food was of high quality and reflected the local Tirolean fare.
We did have some minor criticisms. The separate toilet and bathroom was not to our liking. Although the hotel did have a bar, it was in a dining area and there was not a residents lounge to relax in after skiing.
Overall we were very happy with this hotel and would recommend it.
