Rugged but memorable
Aa the host said "kids are too used to comfort, they need to feel a bit of discomfort", and more than often its the adults that need some getting used to. The room are sparse, the bath room is essentially an outdoor oversized upright barrel, covered by a curtain, with shower, sink and a toilet bowl, but the water is hot!
But the lake view is gorgeous. Our 10 yo, found and made friends immediately and didnt want to leave. They had a lot of fun, running around with an ultra friendly dog Millie, building a campfire, canoeing, feeding the chickens, a very educational farm tour learning about the bush, the real Bo Shack etc.
But do prep if you are from the city. Bring indoor slippers as floor is cement. Bring some comfort snacks although there's lots of food to keep you filled up, bring alcohol to keep warm :), bring torch, and water proof shoes or boots for kids else will keep changing socks.
Otherwise, it's a great experience. Will bring older boys back.

An amazing weekend
We had the best weekend at Boshack, it was just what we needed; Lots of fun activities but yet a nice amount of quiet / down time. Steve, our host, was the best and had so much knowledge of the area and some great stories. The location is just fabulous, with all the animals and star gazing at night and easy to get to. We really loved it, and my kids were sad to leave!

Magical family adventure
Just had two nights at the beautiful BoShack farm stay. The kids and adults alike loved every minute. Activities were all awesome and the food was delicious. Canoeing was a highlight for the kids, as well as feeding the animals.The accommodation was comfortable and we loved the hot outdoor shower with a view. Would highly recommend this place for a magical family experience.

Outback experience in beautiful location, with modern amenities
We visited Boshack Outback for a couple of nights in early October.
It was exactly what I was looking for - an outback adventure experience that is not completely raw (ie without basic modern amenities) and yet not glamping either!
The cabins are pretty roomy if you go as a couple (can easily sleep 6 or more) and some of them are just 10 steps from the lake. They are doubly insulated so it's not very cold at night, even though temps were low during our visit.
The bed is a little lumpy but not so bad. Better pillows would be nice. Considering that this is an outback experience and not a 5-star hotel, it's reasonable.
The interesting thing is that the "ensuite" bathroom is actually outside the room. It does lend to the outback experience, but if you need to go in the middle of the night, you'll have to put on your jackets (in winter or spring), exit your room and walk 3-4 steps to the bathroom. This inconvenience can be viewed as good fun, but if you're looking for full comfort and typical daily convenience, you'd be better off finding a glamping site.
The day activities were fun and educational. You can choose your level of participation. Steve is the man! He is so affable and yet knowledgeable on so many topics, that he was really a joy to chat with, and to learn things from. I haven't built a raft in over 30 years, and it was nice to learn know to knot the ropes again, haha.
We also enjoyed the tour around Boshack, hearing how it came to be, feeding the horses, alpacas, chicken and geese that are around. Also tried a few wild herbs and picked some wild mulberries.
Meals (included in the price) were good. On top of everything Steve does well, he's a good cook! Dietary restrictions are catered to.
The best thing we liked about Boshack was sitting around the campfire at night with hot Milo and chatting with other guests, while looking up to the night sky. The 2nd night, Steve took us star-gazing with his telescope. We were joined by Millie the cute and boisterous puppy, so it was a lot of fun.
Then there are the peacocks that call Boshack their home. Beautiful creatures - we've never seen them up close (they were sleeping on the tree right outside our cabin) before and never heard them make noises in the various zoos we've been to. The funny thing is that we probably got on their nerves for going to the loo in the middle of the night - our cabin door opening and closing must have woken them up, so they screeched, and then some. A peacock's screech sounds like a small child crying for help. And then they woke up at around 4:30 am and started their family morning symphony. Haha. We did lose a little sleep but it was all in good humour!
The thing that really took some points from our stay was the abundance of flies. Apparently this was due to the sudden weather changes in the past couple of weeks, but man, they were such a nuisance! If you go during fly season, make sure you bring a fly hat, otherwise you will find it rather unpleasant. That said, Steve said he's gonna do something about it, and I'm sure he'll do a great job containing the problem.
All in all, we did enjoy our stay at Boshack. If it weren't for the flies, it'd be a 5-star review. It's the perfect short vacation for families with young kids and a romantic destination for couples.

Time well spent off grid
We were lucky to nab a last-minute cancellation at Boshack over the March long weekend, and we couldn’t pass up the chance to create amazing memories with the kids in a safe, activity-filled environment led by Steve!
There were so many interesting activities we would have never had the chance to do in our regular busy lives!
Steve brought a great amount of positive energy and humour to the experience while also teaching us about nature and its deep connection to Australian Indigenous history. There was never a dull moment!
Boshack offers plenty of space and comfortable accommodation. Just don’t expect pristine luxury. This is true “Aussie outback living” with a warm community feel. The simple yet delicious Aussie-style meals are prepared for you and served communal-style.
Yes, while there were a few interesting critters around the property, but that’s all part of the adventure. The kids loved being unplugged from their devices and fully immersed in nature.
You’ll need to find out for yourselves as I could go on forever about everything we did, but I’ll keep it short: The kids’ favourite part? EVERYTHING!
