Poor Experience

I stay regularly at Novotel and other Accor properties and, as a Platinum member, unfortunately found my experience at Novotel Newcastle very disappointing.
On arrival there were no bottles of water in the fridge. When I contacted reception, I was told that this hotel does not provide water in the fridges. After explaining that I was an Accor Platinum member, two bottles of water were eventually provided.
There was also no welcome gift or recognition of my Platinum status. I was later advised that the hotel’s system was showing me as Gold because I had originally made the booking while I held Gold status, despite being Platinum at the time of my stay.
What concerned me most was being unable to contact reception after approximately 5:40pm. After several unanswered calls, I went to reception in person and found nobody at the desk.
Management subsequently responded to my complaint, apologised for the issues and offered a 20% discount on a future stay, which I appreciate. However, the overall experience fell well below what I have experienced at other Novotel properties and what I would expect from the brand.
Unfortunately, I won’t be staying at Novotel Newcastle again.

Good location but let down by the bathroom cleanliness

We really liked the location. Great access to the beach and rock pools. Easy walk to dining options. The undercover secure car park (at a fee) was convenient and the staff were friendly. Liked the cute touches like the binoculars available to borrow to whale watch and colouring in for the kids in the lobby.
We had a superior room (2 double beds). The room was quite small but nicely decorated. Beds were comfortable enough for a short stay.
Cleanliness was an issue especially in the bathroom. The toilet was dirty under the rim, mould in the shower and the floor not properly swept. The fan did not work which might explain the mould.
For a weeknight stay, a property without a swimming pool and the state of the bathroom, I feel that the property is overpriced.

Lovely location near the beach. Rooms generally fine for a family (we were in a family room). Cleanliness was good but not excellent, rooms and shower. Breakfast was a disappointment for $30 although the kids eat free was a nice touch. Parking nearby on weekends is pretty good on the street. At the time of writing it's 2P but only Saturday morning 9am-12pm is enforced - meaning you can park virtually all weekend for free.

Nice new carpet on the 5th floor glad to see they are keeping up with the refurbs. The beds are always so comfortable and the pillows too. Very nice staff and excellent location right near the beach and the Newcastle saltwater pool!
