About the best and safest in town

About the best and safest in town - Katherine sadly is not a safe town being regarded in one of the top 10 most unsafe towns in Australia. So when looking for accommodation the main priority was safety. This motel has a secure gated access and fencing with spikes atop. It’s also a few blocks away from the centre of town so a bit away from the rough Main Street. Charlie who greeted us at reception was lovely and very helpful. We ordered a meal from their takeaway menu which was perfectly fine. The room itself which was on the first floor was pleasant enough and clean. It is simple but had what we needed. The beds however were very soft and I awoke with a rather sore back. Overall though it was a good stay and we felt safe and also knowing our car was safe too. If you have to stay in Katherine then this is a good option but don’t stick around in town.

The room we were given had a smell that we couldn’t get rid of. We were told it was the cleaning product used but we have our doubts. We were offered another room but as we were only there a short time, we didn’t want a fuss but this needs to be attended. Our suspicion is that there’s mould somewhere. There was certainly a leak under the bathroom sink.

Conveniently located to major facilities such as shops etc but also far enough away from the hotels and bars so is nice and quiet. Rooms are very clean and comfortable and car park is behind a locked gate in the evening. It is good value for what you get but it is 3 star so functional not fancy.
