Disappointed in our stay at Meralda Station
The booking process and regulations are very cumbersome ; not very clear on how or when to book the amazing grazing platter, bbq pack or goat curry ? - no firewood unless you paid extra or brought your own - and don't walk to the two toilets/one shower after 5 pm in case you disturb someone having a 'secluded' bath (hook up your car and drive around the long way instead).
(And I wouldn't count on your bath being 'secluded').
It was a nice scrubby setting, a great concept, 'rustic'- , but sounds a lot better in the website, than it does in reality.

Meralda Station Review
No one to greet you to advise you where to park even though we could NOT go into the secluded area. For $40 a night it was pretty poor with 2 toilets and 1 shower. The website reads like it is very close to Darling River but i did not know how far it was was general area camping. We stayed the night before at Nelia Gaari Station on the actual Darling River and had toilets dotted over area and 2 big showers that were instantly hot and great power for $10 pp for a night! Need to drop your price for what you offer and don't reply we are 'privileged' folk as we have done 6 years around Australia and experienced many camp areas.

Disappointed
Firstly, the 'welcoming' letter included a request that I reconsider staying if, on self reflection, I considered myself "a bit too entitled".
Then I was told that cameras were in place, and if caught speeding, I would be "given a departure message with no refund".
Our secluded camp-site, named S***s Creek, (reviews including profanities are not printed) was 700 metres - yes, 700 metres from the toilet and shower and clearly from previous responses - "digging a hole" was not permitted.
My partner walked 100 -200 metres along the boundary fence and came across the remains of recently slaughtered kangaroos. About 12 - including joeys.
For $40 a night, it gets two stars because the shower was enjoyable and it was secluded.

Underwhelmed
I feel for the landowners being in terrible drought and acknowledge that the property is well situated, close to Cobar.
We paid for a load of wood, and maybe someone had come and pilfered some before we checked in, but it was a paltry amount and I would suggest bringing from elsewhere if you can.
We were in a campsite away from the main camping area (as we wanted) and although we were actually only a hundred M or so away from the toilet were told we had to walk all the way around via the road. About a ten minute walk. We were informed this was so that we didn't disturb the ppl who may have been having an outdoor bath. There could be a sign that indicates if the bath is in use, or a polite text saying that it has been booked and when.
The really weird thing was that when we asked the lady cleaning the bath where the toilet was, she said' Just dig a hole"!! The next day we got a terse phone call from the proprietor telling us this was wrong. No apology, just a statement that if we had followed the other person's instructions, she expected us to go and remove it! It appears that the proprietor is always right and we as customers are not.
I think the business is still young and hope that it improves in the future.

While we understand that our setup may not suit everyone’s preferences, our policies are in place for a reason — they’re part of how we run our business and how we protect the experience for all guests. We aren’t changing them to suit individual demands. All guests are advised on the site you booked on in our T&Cs you need to walk or drive back to the maincamp the way you entered ONLY. You were advised that before you even arrived and on arrival.
You chose a more private site, and with that comes a slightly longer walk to the amenities — which was clearly explained at booking. The route is designed to respect the privacy of other guests, particularly those enjoying our outdoor bath, which is a key part of what we offer. We’re not going to compromise that experience.
As for the firewood, we supply what’s advertised, and if there’s ever a concern, we expect to be contacted at the time so we can address it — not after the fact.
The comment made by a staff member was inappropriate and addressed immediately. However, we don’t appreciate the tone taken toward us in return, nor the assumption that policies being enforced equates to rudeness.
We wish you well with future travel, but we are clear on who we are and what we offer — and we won’t be changing that.
