This family-run hotel is located a comfortable 10-minute walk from Elmshorn town centre. Hotel Royal offers free parking, and is a 20-minute drive from Hamburg city centre. The Esprit restaurant offers a menu which changes on a weekly basis.

However, the hotel refuses a refund on the grounds that we did not adhere to the agreed check-in times. This reasoning is completely incomprehensible to me, because even if we arrived on time we could not have used the rooms due to the massive defects.
The way the staff handled it was disappointing: no understanding, no apology, no goodwill. A service that absolutely does not do justice to a hotel of this category. For us, the Hotel Royal is definitely out of the question.

Unfortunately unacceptable room hygiene – stay cancelled
I was invited to Elmshorn by a business partner who kindly arranged for me to stay overnight at this hotel. Unfortunately, the stay was very short-lived: In my room there were several crawlies and even cockroaches.
Due to the unhygienic circumstances it was absolutely unacceptable for me to stay there. We left the hotel the same evening and moved to another hotel.
Despite these circumstances, we were denied cancellation. The hotel has so far been unwilling to find a solution or make a refund. For this reason, we will publish reviews from now on until this incident is resolved.
In the meantime, we spoke to other guests who were also affected by similar abuses. Very bad, as the first impression of the reception was friendly – but the room was unfortunately unacceptable.

Don’t go here!
This is the worst hotel - old and worned out - like in a horror movie. We booked 2 nights and wanted to check out after the first night because of the poor standard - and no hot water in the morning. Also the hotel was being renovated during our stay making everything look messy and unfinished. This was not annonced anywhere during the booking. The hotel owners told us that they would charge us 70% if we cancelled the last night here. So we were kind of trapped!!!
So don’t go here - the staff is rude, the hotel is being renovated, no housekeeping making up our beds... totally not worthy of its three stars!
