A lovely rural retreat

It's lovely inn in a beautiful quiet rural location, whose views across the valley you can enjoy from the garden and the rooms at the front. The rooms are well decorated and relaxing. Alan and Caroline, the hosts were most welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble. The bar and restaurant are really relaxing with a good selection of wines - The menu was varied - the meals were excellent and nicely presented. There is a good choice for breakfast and we were offered more tea and fresh coffee without prompting. The service was very personal and efficient throughout our stay.
The Holcombe Inn is tucked away on the edge of the village of Holcombe, but only 30 minutes from Bath. There is ample parking and the Inn is a good base for Bath, Radstock and Cheddar Gorge. We are already planning a re-visit in the autumn

Mendip Magic and Fish on Friday

I called in at The Holcombe last Friday for a light lunch. As it was a beautiful Summer's day, I chose to sit outside in the garden, which is well laid out with access to the Kitchen Garden, from where many of the ingrediants on the menu originate. There are numerous tables - with the all important - comfortable chairs, and a choice of being in the sun or in the rather welcome shade. Add to this a stunning view across the valley towards Downside Abbey - one would be pushed to find a better spot.
To eat, I had the Trout from the Small Plates menu. It was very prettily presented and tasted delicious. I obviously had to accompany it with a portion of nice crispy chips - it being Friday!
The service was very welcoming, efficient and non-instrusive, which is just how I like it.
This is obviously a well run establishment and presents a non-ostentacious, relaxed, laidback country vibe - but with strong quiet quality at the forfront.
I would highly recommend The Holcombe and will be returning.

A truly special place!

We visited The Holcombe for my partner's birthday and had the most incredible experience from start to finish. The food was simply outstanding—honestly some of the best we've ever had. You can really taste the care and passion that goes into everything. From the homemade butter, crackers and sausages to the vegetables they grow themselves, every dish was exceptional. It's rare to find food of this quality, and it completely exceeded our expectations.
The setting is just as special. Nestled in the beautiful countryside, the views are stunning, especially at sunset. We stayed in one of the lodges, which was beautifully designed, comfortable, and the perfect place to relax after an amazing meal.
Alan and Caroline are wonderful hosts who make you feel so welcome, and meeting Truffle the dog and Pepper the cat was the icing on the cake!
If you're looking for incredible food, a beautiful location, and genuine hospitality, The Holcombe is an absolute must-visit.
We can't wait to go back.
