Good place to spend night on East Cape tour

Perfect stopping point for trip around the east cape. Room was clean and bed comfortable. Small refrigerator and kettle. Really nice hike down to beach from property. Restaurant on site was perfect for dinner. Staff very friendly.

Pretty sad!- in desperate need of maintainence.

It’s difficult to write this as I’m sure the place was a great thriving business in its day and choice on the East Coast is so limited… but the place was awful! We had to stay for 2 nights and unfortunately the full day we had in Hicks Bay it was torrential rain… so we got to know the place well. It’s been underinvested, poorly maintained and has been left tired and worn out. Peeling wallpaper, exposed plug sockets, threadbare carpets, springs protruding from mattresses and stained bedding greeted us… it was sticky and smelly and the service was hostile and unremarkable. Lots of mozzies as the stagnating water in the unused ‘pool’ is green and polluted.
I’d advise go elsewhere but it has a bit of a monopoly in the region so go at your own peril!

Beautiful location, but lack of maintenance

The unit was generally fine. In particular the location with a view is really nice. However, the unit did not appear to be looked after well:
- TV remote missing.
- Heater not working.
- 3 towels for four people.
- Blinds not closing.
- Cold water tap has no handle. We could only use hot water.
We would stay here again, but management will need to up their game on maintenance.

No smoke detectors

Beware, this is an old building with no smoke detectors, fire would travel quickly along the roof. Yes it complies with regulations when it was built probably about 50 years ago.
It is only about $10 to keep you safe but this has not been done. We decided to move on but no refund given.

Absolutely shocking customer service

Firstly we understand the east coast location is remote and we weren’t expecting the Taj Mahal, so basically happy with our unit a 2 bedroom for our Moko to sleep, yes a bit run down but comfy beds clean linen, although a cockroach was running up the wall, second room definitely damp with mould on windows and a damp smell but ok we were just staying 2 nights in summer so warm anyway. We were out all day with family and evenings too so didn’t use restaurant etc so cannot comment on that. Chris the Manager was friendly when we checked in , however power was being worked in so we agreed to pay on checkout. There was no power until 6 pm but that was ok no problem for us. I was concerned that there were no smoke alarms in the rooms anywhere.. last morning we tried to get gas hob ignited wouldn’t work just wanted to cook some eggs, oh well not too worried. On checkout I went in to pay and was met with a grumpy uninterested woman, who proceeded to say we had alcohol charges on our room which of course wasn’t ours, I just wanted to pay for the room and go, she was vile and rude, I asked if the rooms had smoke alarms and she said sarcastically “well did you see any? “ which I replied “ no” and she said well obviously we don’t ! I said well that’s a safety issue and she said “don’t complain to me” unbelievable. Also mentioned then that the oven hob didn’t work and she said “ well you have been here 2 days why didn’t you ask?.. so rude . $195 is pretty expensive but that’s not really my issue, it was this rude woman, the charges for alcohol were obviously a mistake, that happens , beautiful spot but I would avoid staying there until they get staff sorted, just terrible.
