My Paradise in Kashmir
MY COTTAGE IN PARADISE
This was my third stay at Cottage Nigeen in Srinagar, where the Owner couple opened their entire house for me, as if I was part of their family. The Cottage is a typical Kashmiri aristocrat’s home with a vast garden and fruit orchards surrounding it, and is located minutes walk from both Nigeen lake and Dal lake, as well as Hazratbal Dargah. The warmth of the hospitality was something even a 5 star hotel cannot compete with.
I will definitely stay at this beautiful property for the fourth time next year

Warm hosts, wonderful stay, the feeling of home
This was my second time staying at The Cottage Nigeen; the first was in 2021. Often places you love the first time round don't live up to your expectations the second time. No so with The Cottage Nigeen. It almost felt better.
We love the place, the house is beautiful and you feel like guests of Shakila and Riyaz both of whom go out of their way to ensure the best experience of their home and of Srinagar. Especially Shakila who tells you the insider's tips to places to shop, what to buy and see.
The location of the house is also a huge bonus. The Nigeen Lake is almost at the bottom of the lane and you can take a shikara without having to go to a bustling ghat; it's also a 15-minute walk from Hazratbal.
The house, rooms, and garden are lovely, and we hope to go back soon

Exceptional experience. Like family like home
I cannot recommend the cottage nigeen enough. My colleague and I went and stayed there in November for 16 days and it almost became like home to us. The staff there including Ashiq and others are so sweet and so hospitable. Even the owners Shakila and Tariq are such delightful people and so welcoming. We often had long chats with them about the culture and ethos of Kashmir and got to hear so many insightful story about the state. Food is second to none. Infact food is simply exceptional there. 16 days of breakfast and dinner at the cottage nigeen and I’m literally hooked to their brilliant food. There’s so much choice and you can ofcourse make special requests too. The rooms are spacious and stunning with ample sunlight and a heating system available for the cold winter nights. I took my electric blanket etc with me but did not use it at all as the rooms were warm. It’s really close to all the shops and access to downtown is really easy.

Muslim thank you very much for making our wonderful trip superb. Your care and hospitality was unparalleled with your very attentive father in law and very efficient house boys. Lovely cottage well maintained gardens with tulips. Cozy room. Tasty food.
Sushmita had a bonding session with Shakeela as well on the pretty garden.

Our wonderful & memorable stay
Having read about it in a Condé Nast article, I was certainly expecting a good and comfrotable stay but my 9-day stay with them went way beyond my expectations. The large room overlooking the front garden, tastefully decorated common areas and the garden itself are more than enough to make anyone feel at home. Riyaz and Shakila are very friendly hosts and the staff is very supportive and helpful. Meeting other guests during breakfast or dinner and exchanging travel tips, experiences made the overall stay truly memorable and gave a personal touch to the whole thing which is difficult to find in a typical commercial establishment.
We are sure to return to Srinagar and the Cottage Nigeen in future and I highly recommend this property to everyone
