Beautiful place. Stunning food. Such friendly multi lingual staff who allowed me to make mistakes without laughing at m.

What a friendly reception and sumptuous food . We stayed in a local house but wished we had stayed there. Such kind staff. I came down in the afternoon to bask in the sun with a glass of wine and they gave me as much consideration as if I had paid hundreds .

Best lunch of our trip

We were cruising the canal du Midi and stopped in for lunch. There were 18 of us, and they very quickly accommodated us. We sampled some wine, and then chose a bottle for lunch. The food was fantastic. The Niçoise salad was the best I've ever had. My sons also enjoyed the oysters as a starter, and loved the burger. The service and the atmosphere topped it off to make this a highlight of our trip.

Eat, drink but don't stay!

With a couple of friends we stayed for five nights at Vinauberge in the two first floor self-catering apartments.
Good points;-
Nice welcome
Cosy restaurant with good food and wines.
Very good location right by the side of the canal and in a small village with (thankfully) a couple of other very acceptable restaurants.
Well-equipped kitchen.
Bad points;-
No breakfast available despite price of Euro12pppd quoted when booking. (I accept the apartments are advertised as self-catering but....)
The menu (three starters. three mains (including two beef steaks and salmon) and three desserts) never changed. In fairness when this was raised, we were offered a fish alternative (tiger prawns) one evening which were very good. We then took the view most residents are short-stay.
Apart from the kitchen, apartments very poorly furnished with no comfortable chairs to sit in/on and what appeared to be a very basic/small couch/second bed in the lounge area.
Faulty lights on staircase (dangerous) - temporary lanterns never lit despite assurances they would be.
Untidy gardens - loads of weeds and unmown grass.
ON CHECK-OUT, OUR BILL CONTAINED A CHARGE OF Euro98 FOR CLEANING THE TWO APARTMENTS AFTER OUR DEPARTURE!! NO MENTION HAD BEEN MADE OF THIS ON ARRIVAL (WHEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CONTESTED VIGOROUSLY). IT WAS REMOVED IMMEDIATELY BUT IT LEFT A NASTY TASTE IN THE MOUTH, AFTERALL WE HAD STAYED FOR FIVE NIGHTS DURING WHICH TIME THEY HAD NOT CLEANED OR CHANGED ANY BED LINEN AND/OR TOWELS. A TRY-ON PERHAPS!!
If in this area again would happily stop for a drink and meal at Vinauberge- but that is all!!

Fantastic restaurant

We enjoyed a lovely lunch while stopping at Vinauberge as part of our Canal du Midi cruise. The atmosphere in the garden was soothing, the service was extermely friendly in both french and english and the food gorgeous. The experience was crowned by the local Rosé which was served for 17€ a bottle. One of the definite highlits of our cruise.

Great place to stay

This is an ideal place to stay in the Languedoc area of SW France. The property consists of a Maison de Maitre converted into self catering apartments. The apartments are large and well equipped, although slightly impersonal decor and only one English TV channel (BBC World News, which seems to think rotating three different stories all evening is enough news!). We stayed in a one bedroom apartment on the ground floor, which had its own small patio with table and chairs and two sun loungers and a shared grass area. There is also a bistro type restaurant with a large collection of different types of wine. You can eat inside or out on the terrace and have just drinks or try tapas or full meals. The restaurant has lots of chilled wine storage units where you can taste a selection of wines (including ones made in the village and local area) for a small cost and then choose your favourite and have a whole glass or bottle. The wine can also be bought by the bottle at reasonable prices. We arrived late in the evening (about 11pm - delayed Ryanair flight, and the proprietor greeted us personally, stating that the kitchen had prepared a platter of cold meat and cheese with bread and salad. He emphasised that there was no obligation but they thought we may be hungry after the journey. The staff were generally very helpful and polite and spoke good English. The property is nicely located in a small French village by the side of the Canal du Midi and you can walk along the banks to other villages. The landscape is truly beautiful with the plane trees growing along the banks of the canal and roads, the vineyards with their well-tended vines flourishing and the medieval villages with their old properties and narrow streets to explore. You can hire boats on the Canal in some of the large villages nearby and visit other wine domains or historic sites locally. The village is about half an hours drive from Beziers airport, but you do really need a car to make the most of this area. We are hoping to return very soon!
