Its been more than 20 years , visiting austria , and st gilgen is our feveret destination . And on top of everything , hotel schernthaner is best . Rooms are specious , clean and location is ideal, you can see beautiful view from balconies, and windows , its newly renovated, bathrooms are specious and clean.beds are big , big dinning table. Chairs , cupboards are with enough size.
Located not far from Bus stop , lake, cable car is near by, Its Family Run hotel, owner , Madam Elis and Son Marcus and his wife , very caring host ,always available for guest. To make shuer you are comfortable in past 20 years , I never had any single complain .
Prices are very reasonable , they serve very good breakfast , different varieties, and generous to serve early morning .no rush to close breakfast . As tourist you will not feel far from home. Every year we look forward to come back . This year 2026 we stayed 15 days . Its amazing ,

Perfect Place in Salzkammergut
Loved Hotel Schernthaner and our stay in St. Gilgen recently! Our room (12) had been completely renovated - beautiful craftsmanship which compliments the centuries old structure itself. Breakfast was delicious each morning with ample selection & variety. Markus & all the staff were welcoming and helpful with suggestions for activities while we were there. We borrowed bikes one day and rode around the lake to St. Wolfgang and then ferried back across at his recommendation - it ended up being one of our favorite days in Austria.
The location is perfect - walking distance to everything in town and virtually steps away from the Zwolferhorn Cable Car.
They have thought of everything here - to the point that one day when looking at a bike trail map with Markus, my husband didn't have his reading glasses on him and Markus turned around and pulled out a box full of readers in varying strengths!
The ambience with new artwork, furniture, lighting, etc. just makes the hotel clean & modern lodging without losing its historical charm. Highly recommended!

traditional touches
Right in the middle of the picturesque lakeside village of St. Gilgen, the Schernthaner is a good solid Austrian pension offering traditional touches mixed with some modern features for a comfortable stay. The parking area is a little awkward but close at hand, as are a number of good restaurants including the excellent Wirt am Gries. A far less frenetic environment than the neighbouring St. Wolfgang.

Go for it!
We took bus 150 from Salzburg and arrived at this beautiful town of St.Gilgen. The moment we got down, we knew we had made the right choice. Nestled in the city center of the quaint town, this boutique hotel is perfect to make your stay memorable. We travelled with our 10 year old daughter. The room was spacious with a separate bed for my daughter. The bed linens were clean and the room had a beautiful view of the town. The hosts are generous and kind. They helped us with our itinerary as we covered St. Wolfgang and Hallstat. The breakfast was delicious with ample choices for vegetarians. It is a perfect hotel for families, we met some senior citizens and the whole environment was very welcoming. The ferry station to St. Wolfgang is walking distance and the park in front of ferry station is amazing for kids. The views are fantastic. Even the walk to city center makes this visit worthwhile. Everything can be covered by foot if staying in this hotel. This stay was my most memorable one during our 15 days Austria visit. If you prefer peace over hustle bustle of the city, this hotel and this town is for you. Prefer this city (and of course the hotel) over staying in Hallstat anyday. A day trip to Hallstat can be done from this town and the bus stop again is very close to the hotel.

Cosy inn in a perfect location
Perfect location and very comfortable. The hosts were thoughtful and attentive, the beds very comfortable, and very handy to everything. The included breakfast buffet had a lot of options, even for those of us who are gluten-free. They have bicycles for the use of guests, who’d we took out for the day. We really enjoyed our stay.
