Very happily surprised given some terrible reviews

I booked this hotel in a rush without looking at any reviews. Then I looked at the reviews and instantly worried. Arriving at the driveway to the carport and I forgot to check my texts for the number, it wasn’t there. The speaker to reception worked immediately, the receptionist let me straight in with my booking details, and from there my stay got better. Check in was quick and easy. I got my 7 digit number for my room door and I’ve got to be honest it felt entirely weird going out without my room key at first, but I soon began to appreciate not having to pat myself down before going out, I just had to check a text message and very quickly remembered it. I got to my room and it was well planned and set out with everything I need hands reach. My room was clean and modestly supplied, here I’d like to say I have extensive experience in housekeeping from front line to management, and while there are always going to be gaps, for the time management probably allows to clean this room, it was remarkably well done by Coco.
I had a few interactions with reception during my stay, due to my tourist ignorance about Newcastle, and they were all very pleasant and productive. Checkout was easy and follow up was polite and expected.
As for Newcastle, be mindful, on a weeknight, the town is next to dry after 7pm. Very few bottle shops open, no takeaway from pubs and clubs. Given their history with bar brawls, king hits and drunken bad behaviour , it’s not surprising but I totally forgot to prepare for , this is where reception had my back.

Terrible experience, unacceptable cleanliness standard and poor customer service

Very disappointing stay.
We were downgraded to a lower‑category room with no notice, despite paying around $200 extra for a higher standard and two bathrooms. Reception insisted the suite “couldn’t have been booked” even though I had a direct booking and written confirmation. With no management on site over the weekend to escalate the issues, I was told I’d need to wait until Monday and would receive a partial refund but they could not confirm the amount or if it would be equivalent to the difference in rates.
The room itself was also poorly maintained, showing long‑term neglect rather than a simple missed clean. It was very unhygienic (photos attached).
Management has since refunded the rate difference and acknowledged the issues, but the overall experience was far below acceptable standards. I won’t be returning, even with the offer of a 20% discount on a future stay.

3 days

Stayed 3 nights as had to attend appointments at John Hunter.
Upgraded to a 2 bedroom as I had asked to be above the pool- love a water viewApartment is great for 2 people
No clothes space in rooms and would be a squeeze for a family. 3 door waldrobe that needed more hangers available and drawers

Location was good, parking was difficult,
Furniture in Living room was so uncomfortable when you sat on sofa you went through no support. Suggest new sofas in Living Room. Would not stay again

Great location between Train interchange and Beach end connected via Light Rail. Plenty of places to eat. Staff were good. Great apartment on L6 district outlook. Had a very nice stay. Thanks.
