No compliance with agreements

My rating is for the hotel, not the inn!
It is based on telephone contact in April 2026.
Due to a family celebration I planned to book several rooms at the Hotel Adler. I had discovered this hotel in an online portal, but wanted to book directly to save the operator the high referral fees. On the phone (Sunday two weeks ago) we quickly came to an agreement. I wrote an email as agreed with the summary of all important information and waited for confirmation. This did not happen until Wednesday evening despite 3 telephone inquiries. In the evening at about half past 10, I tried my luck again. My email from Sunday was found and opened in my presence by phone. I was also confirmed that the rooms I wanted were still available. Shortly after, I actually got the promised confirmation by email. But happy too soon. Only a few minutes later I was informed that he unfortunately had to withdraw the previous confirmation, as online bookings had been received in the meantime and he no longer had the required rooms available.
After another call on my part came another mail that he could not provide all the rooms despite cancelling other bookings, as some guests had booked for several nights (with us it would only be one night).
My conclusion: I've never actually encountered anything so unprofessional and calculating. I will definitely not want to book here anymore and will not recommend it to anyone. And certainly not directly at the hotel. What kind of hotelier is that who doesn't keep his word?

Once upon a time there was a good cozy inn with local food

Newly opened, changing staff, last week still normal menu with e.g. sausage salad and mules, since this week only "high-scoring" menu with food not for everyone, significantly overpriced, Swabian food is no longer available from this week. Unfortunately not recommended as a Swabian-Baden inn in the village.

Bad experience

Unfortunately, I have to give a bad review.
Here is the explanatory statement in brief:
- Rooms booked and paid for 6 days through Expedia
- on departure I was informed by the tenant that he has not yet received payment
- I was caught off guard and could not check the facts immediately due to internet problems (which are part of the standard offer of the inn)
- Invoice paid again on site, stupidly with PIN
- after checking facts immediately asked for reimbursement by telephone, promise of the lessee "He cares"
- after months no refund despite several calls, whatsapps, registered mail
- except comfort no reaction, also Expedia repeatedly could not bring about any clarification, because no reaction/feedback from the inn
My negative Google review was deleted for alleged "defamation." For me, the following question arises: Why can't the inn take care of the refund, but does it have time to crack down on unpleasant reviews - like mine?
Due to this bad experience I can not recommend the inn.

Long wait, food fine, unhappy service

Refers to the restaurant:
Unfortunately there were extremely long waits for food, this was fine to good but not outstanding.
The "chef" freely tells the table next door that the cheese is from the Metro, which certainly says nothing about the quality, but can also mean that the rest of the Metro came in big buckets.
In total we spent 2 hours on site, only the last 25 minutes of it with food, the nice gentleman had generously calculated his tip himself and I had to intervene correctively, for the "service" and the waiting time almost 8 euros tip was then too brazen for me - even if this was "for the team".
Actually, I tended from the review between 2-3 stars, had already given it on Google, however, the company apparently basically has any "bad" review removed from Google on the grounds of "defamation". This granted unfortunately suffers here any consideration for the "new" owners.

No more!

At the end of June 2025 I was registered for a sea crossing from Konstanz to Meersburg and had booked a room at the Gasthaus Adler Konstanz for the night before the swim. - Due to a broken leg I unfortunately had to cancel the stay four weeks before arrival. I had booked the booking as 'non-refundable' but still asked the hotel if they would waive the cancellation fees in view of the medical cancellation.
Instead of an answer (I would of course have accepted a 'no, sorry - you booked a non-refundable rate') nothing happened. Even after trying four times to get the operators of the hotel to respond, I received no message or reaction whatsoever.
I wonder about this inappropriate experience of the hotel's service level, how guests are treated on site. Apparently it is too strenuous, unpleasant and simply too much to reply to a very simple guest request by email. Courtesy and decency look different.
I will certainly no longer consider this hotel on the occasion of the Lake Constance crossing in 2026 - and I recommend that every traveller does not do so either. It could lead to the same disappointment that I just made, and indeed no one needs that now.
