New Gudauri Gondola Stay
Most of the buildings in New Gudauri are ski in and ski out. It's a great resort for families as everything you need is in walking distance and it is safe for kids to walk around. There are enough restaurants and bars that you won't get bored if you stay for a week. The staff are extremely friendly.

New Year in Gudauri
Arrived 30/12/25 at 6:00 p.m., rooms weren't ready. We only checked in at 11:00 p.m. and that's when I was just sitting in my room watching the cleaning. After moving in, the shower was broken. The administration replaced us. The cleaning was horrible, sending everything myself. The TV is just for beauty. Old generation, no internet, wi fai and set-top box completely disabled. Took the second unit specifically because of the spa. The water in the pool is freezing, in the Jacuzzi too. For the record, there's an entrance fee, and you have to buy your bathrobes separately. She asked that the hot tub water be made warmer. They threw a hose, added some hot water. The smartwatch showed a temperature of 24 degrees water. It's still very cold water. The sauna is fine, but that's not what the money was paid for. Tell me what I'll advise my friends? No! It's beautifully described, in reality, it's in terrible condition. The elevator is very slow, often climbed the stairs on foot.

Great place to stay in Gudauri.
We lived in Unit 4. It is located in New Gudauri directly in the ski resort. The nearest lift is 5 minutes on foot. Everything is compact and close by, shops, spa, restaurants, ice skating rink. The room has everything you need (crockery, towels, linen). The bed is comfortable not failed, comfortable pillows. The only thing that happened was that there was some kind of Internet problem, but as I understood it, it was temporary. I liked it in general.

Gudauri needs a lot of work
We stayed in Block 1, which is in New Gudauri and close to the lifts, ski gear/school shops, bars and eateries. The proximity to those places is the only attribute. These self-help apartments are rough. There is no noise-proofing and you will have young, loud, drinking and smoking neighbors. The shower floor broke when I stood on it. The entire bathroom flooded after each shower. The wifi was spotty. The TV was broken (if you have young kids, then you will understand what it means to have no wifi and no TV from 5 p.m. until 10 a.m. for a week). The ski slopes or pistes are not nice. They are overcrowded every day with lots of reckless and inexperienced boarders and skiers. The lines or queues at the lifts are not bad. But, you can wait 30 minutes for the gondola and the slopes themselves are way too crowded with 80% of the users being beginners. Those with skills tend to go too fast. Lots of ice and rocks. Lots of days of very low visibility. Just a recipe for disaster. The restaurants are awful, except the little pizzeria, Posticino, which is good. For the other restaurants, which are serving local Georgian food, expect long waits once you get a table (if you can - there are not enough eateries for the size of the crowds), incorrect order processing, overcharging, average food (bland and repetitive across the options), and, in 2023, expensive. You can pay 70 EUR on the pistes, e.g., at Megabar, for what basically constitutes a snack for three people (with zero alcohol). We'll not return to Gudauri. You will be better off spending more on airfare to visit far superior pistes, hotels, and restaurants/bars in Europe. The children and beginners (and locals) flying around the baby slope and gondola base on high-powered Polaris snow mobiles is outrageous and, I have been told (by an articulate local), has been deadly more than once in the recent past. That alone is reason to go elsewhere.

Not for me, not for many but ok for others
Not to be misunderstood, we visited Tbilisi last summer and we were very pleased with what we’ve experienced so we decided to try more of Georgia and book a ski holiday. We arrived in Gudauri on December 24th to find out that all the slopes are closed due to lack of snow. The artificial snow guns were not working due to lack of water that was caused by a burst pipe (gossips on the street) however an unofficial network of taxi combined with chairlifts were giving the option of unofficial skiing. On the morning of 25th first slope was open but only 1 lift or 3 lifts tickets were sold, to be changed to selling 1 day ski pass after lunch time. From this day on, despite the snow fall the ticket counter will only sell 1 day sky passes, meaning that every day we had to queue up for min 30 min to buy a ticket. Ticket counter will only open at 10 AM, at the same time with chairlift and close at 16 00, one hour before closing the slope, only selling tickets for the day. There was no option for online ticketing so we had to put up with endless queues. As the time passed, the management decided to open more slopes, however none of them were ever trimmed so off piste conditions with allot of rocks. Back to the hotel, from January 1st there was no running water until we left on 4th, very noisy tourists, food smell (majority cooking in their rooms), skis depot not heated. Why visit Gudauri in 2019? If you are after a low budget escape, you are a ski/snowboard beginner and plenty of time to loose. Why it is not for me (at least in 2019-2020? I believe that time is the most expensive resource of our lives and we have to spend it well, we have to little of it to waste it on cost effective solutions, especially when it comes to holidays, I hope that people in tourism business will understand and respect it. Let’s keep one eye on Gudauri, it has breath taking landscapes, wonderful people, great potential for skiing but a very unprofessional management. It take a small effort to turn bad to good. I hope that my post does not affect some of the great people I met there, however, I feel that it’s my duty to say it as it is and help people improve.
